The Octorara Braves boys basketball team play host to the Harriton Rams from Rosemont, PA (Lower Merion Twp.) Saturday night at 7 p.m. in the high school gym. The Braves, who had a first round bye in the District I playoffs, will be without one of their star players Dequan Newton who was injured in practice earlier this week.
According to reports on Facebook from some of the other players, Newton’s teammates plan to work that much harder to overcome their teammate’s absence and secure the win.
Octorara defeated Harriton on their home court on December 30th by a score of 65-57. In that game Maurice Bowers led the Braves with 16 points, Newton chipped in with 15, James Brown tallied 13, Chuck Cooper with 11 and Anthony DiNorscia with 11.
Mike Navarro who did not play in that game will have to pick up the pace tomorrow evening. Mike has been playing well of late and that should help the Braves.
Harriton’s Rams (12-10 overall, 8-7 league) under coach Jesse Rappaport, earned their way into this second round District I match up by defeating Upper Merion H.S. on Wednesday 48-41. Harriton lost to Holy Ghost Prep, Octorara’s expected opponent in the District I finals, by 48-35 on January 21st.
Octorara officials are expecting a capacity crowd and issued this statement earlier this evening:
“The Octorara Boys Varsity Basketball Team will take on Harriton High School in a District 1 Playoff match up on Saturday February 25th at 7pm. Doors will open at 6pm. Due to the size of our gymnasium and an expected sellout crowd, tickets will be on sale tomorrow Friday February 24th in the High School office from 8am to 4pm. Tickets are 5 dollars for all fans. The number of pre-sold tickets will greatly determine whether we will have any tickets available at the door therefore it is important you get your tickets early. Once we reach our maximum seating capacity we will no longer sell tickets. Also Ches-Mont Championship T-shirts will be available at the game for 12 dollars. Come support our Braves!”

Octorara did play Harriston earlier this year but it was not at Harriton, it was at Haverford High School.
