Parkesburg Library 17th Annual Golf Tournament

Parkesburg Library 17th Annual Golf Tournament

By David Jones On Monday the biggest annual fund raiser for the library returned to Tanglewood for the 17th straight year.

There were a total of 40 golfers that came out in perfect weather to try their skills in a “Best Ball” format. There were two teams of women and 8 teams of men.

After a lovely little lunch served by the library volunteers, everyone teed off at 1:00 p.m. under the direction of Tanglewood Pro, Scott Sklar.

By 6:00 p.m. all the teams were back in the pavilion for dinner and prizes. Dinner was provided by Yoder’s Catering.

Winning Team of Sally Dunkle, Nancy Broadwater (also Closet to the pin), Nancy Keen and Trudy Bagnato.

There were so many door prizes almost everyone went home with something other than a sore back.

As far as the skill prizes were concerned the winners included: Fred Casey, straightest drive (men), Ethan Cairns, longest drive (men), Chip Breuninger, closest to the pin (Men), Sally Dunkle straightest drive (women), Pat Rapposelli longest drive (women), and Nancy Broadwater (above with Lynn Jones) closest to the pin (women). The winning low score for the women was the team (right) of Nancy Keen, Sally Dunkle, Nancy Broadwater, and Trudy Bagnato.

On the men’s side there was a tie at 8 under par 64. The tie breaker was decided by the lowest score on the front nine and that made the team of Ethan Cairns, Bob Cairns, Derek Pointek and Greg Esh (below) the winners. Finishing second, but with an equally impressive score of 8 under par was the team of Jack Assetto, Chip Breuninger, Rob Breuninger, and Ty Burtner.

This year’s event netted $5,500 for the Parkesburg Library, $1,000 more than last year’s event. Kudos for bringing off a successful event go out to Board Member Linda Jones, event coordinator, Tom Knecht, Librarian and tournament volunteers Laurie Knecht, Colleen Fantini, and Katherine Westervelt.

All of the staff at Tanglewood once again provided a course in excellent condition and support throughout the day.

Funds from the state to support the library continue to decline year after year, making events like this so important for keeping the library open and available to all of us. Many local businesses and individuals stepped up in a big way this year to make the tournament a rousing success. They include:

  • Gold Sponsors: Somat Company, Robert and Jennifer McNeil and Stewart Huston Charitable Trust.
First Place Team, Greg Esh, Ethan Cairns (also longest drive), Derek Pointek and Bob Cairns.
